Note: “TV everywhere” could mean a lot more than what I have implemented.

Goal: Watching TV in my bedroom with all functionality available through my cable decoder downstairs.

How

The Marmitek MegaVideo 55 splits the Cable decoder output to a Coax cable. The second TV at the other end of the Coax cable has a little box that inserts an infrared signal into the Coax cable. (click the image for tech overview)
UPDATE: The Marmitek MegaVideo 55 is not being sold anymore. Use the Megaview 70.

Result

When using your Cable decoder remote with your 2nd TV, the infrared eye captures the IR commands and sends them to the Cabledecoder over the Coax cable. The MegaVideo 55 picks up the IR signal and sends it to the Cable decoder using an infrared eye.

NICE: When I’m watching TV downstairs and want to go upstairs I click on the switch that says “Going to sleep”. This is a Click-on-Click-off switch. It triggers a script that switches off the lights, turns off my TV and PAUSES my cable decoder. When I’m upstairs and turn on the TV I see the cable decoder screen – paused – and I can continue to watch ;-)

TV everywhere — 1 Comment

  1. I have a TV in every bedroom in my house and with DISH my instillation was free along with my HD channels! I also have TV everywhere though them using the sling adapter and my 722 DVR that they provided me. They charged me $99 for the sling adapter but a co-worker at DISH told me that they are now offering it free. DISH Network is the only TV provider to offer both live TV and DVR content to Smartphone’s, Tablets, and Laptops. Check this link out .
