“LIFX is a WiFi enabled, multi-color, energy efficient LED light bulb that you control with your iPhone or Android.”

First reaction: I want this ;-) By the time I wanted to order one they were all sold out. :-(
Fortunately a (good!) friend of mine ordered more and I can buy one from him. Price was approx. $120 for 2 bulbs.

Goal

Use it as a normal lamp but also integrate it with Homeseer. Integration? Yes, to turn it on/off/dim/change-colors/etc.

Integration
Have the lamp send color signals based on any trigger

  • Washer/dryer are ready
  • Motion at the frontdoor
  • Starts to rain but windows are open

Technology

The ‘master’ bulb has a wifi connection to the network. It uses an 802.15.4 (Zigbee) mesh RF technology to communicate with other Lifx bulbs. Interesting. Could this interfere with my Plugwise modules that also use Zigbee? Or will it enhance the coverage and use eachothers network? Probably not.

  1. Nice lights. How do these stack up against the Philips Hue? The software looks a lot more mature, but are the bulbs themselves of similar quality. Do the bulbs produce a good amount of good white light (with adjustable color temperature)? This is where the Philips Hue bulbs do rather well.

    • Currently I don’t have either (even though Lifx is ordered through a friend).
My personal feel is that Lifx will do anything to make it a success because they don’t have a gigantic brand-name that will make people buy it even if it were crap. I expect (note:EXPECT) the Lifx to be more open for integration with other applications.
Don’t know about the technical specs. Just found this article that does a bit of a comparison:
